Announcement of RDS National Crafts Competition 2008 Winners, in association with the Crafts Council of Ireland

4th September 2008

The recent RDS-National Crafts Competition in association with The Crafts Council of Ireland (CCoI) was a huge success attracting over 500 applications from craftspeople across Ireland.

This prestigious competition now in its 40th year, was established by the Royal Dublin Society in 1968. The importance of the National Crafts Competition cannot be underestimated, it celebrates the traditions of craft and craftspeople in Ireland while promoting future generations of makers. CCoI have a long history of association with the RDS, in 1973, it was established under the auspices of the RDS. The renewed partnership between CCoI and RDS offers positive mutual benefits, synergies and possibilities that will benefit future generations of craftspeople.

At the award ceremony in Dublin in August, Emmet Kane, board member of both CCoI and the RDS commented: ‘the partnership highlights a strong commitment to the promotion of our cultural heritage through Irish craft and provides another opportunity to raise awareness of the skills, quality of work and vibrancy of the sector.’ National Crafts Competition 2008 Winners are listed below:
