TWICE THE CHARM FOR BUTTON & CO: DRAGON’S DEN JEWELLER TAKES HONOURS AT SHOWCASE

Ireland’s most talented designers and craftspeople gathered in the RDS today to witness jeweler Elaine-Sarah Comerford of Button & Co. – who achieved recognition on Dragon’s Den last year - scoop the overall prize for Best New Product at Showcase as well as Best New Product in the Jewellery section for her Button Charm Bracelet. The two-tone silver and gold bracelet depicting old-fashioned buttons was lauded for its quality, design and innovation.

HONOURING TRADITIONS IN IRISH GLASSMAKING: Bursary to Fund Study & Exhibition on Heritage of Glass Cutting and Engraving in Ireland

The world-renowned skills of Irish master cutters and engravers is to be documented in a unique research study on the heritage of glassmaking in Ireland and will become the subject of a major exhibition in 2011, following the announcement of the Crafts Council of Ireland’s Irish Craft Bursary. Róisín de Buitléar is the recipient of a €15,000 Irish Craft Bursary which enables her to initiate the creation of an historical record of the techniques of former Waterford Crystal master engravers and cutters.

PRESENTING THE BEST OF IRISH CREATIVITY: Irish Designers & Craftspeople Showcase to the World

Ireland’s leading designers and craftspeople will generate up to €22 million in sales orders over four days this month at their most important sales event of the year, details of which were announced today. Showcase, Ireland’s Creative Expo, will take place in the RDS from Sunday 24th to Wednesday 27th January when 350 exhibitors will meet more than 5,000 buyers from the domestic and overseas markets,including North America, continental Europe and Japan.

LAURA MAGAHY, APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN AT THE CRAFTS COUNCIL OF IRELAND (CCoI)
