PETER FULOP

CERAMIST

Ceramist Peter Fulop studied traditional ceramics in Hungary from 1985 to 1987 after which he set up his studio in the North- West of Ireland (2001). His work in clay is heavily influenced by Japanese traditions. Following 20 years of active research and experience with clay Fulop has established reduction and wood firing techniques to be his most effective form of expression.

Fulop’s latest body of work is a culmination of his experiences and time spent with traditional artists in China and Japan and his research on martial arts and calligraphic painting. Through his working processes he explores the transference of motion in space onto a two or three dimensional surface.

His work can be found in many private and public collections including Mungyeong Ceramic Museum in Korea; Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Museum, Inax Gallery and IWCAT Collection in Japan; the National Museum of Ireland; the Office of Public Works in Ireland and Freeborn & Peters LLP, Chicago, USA. He has received numerous Arts Council of Ireland, County Councils and Culture Ireland awards and bursaries in support of undertaking artistic residencies for developing new work. Fulop’s latest selected residency program is at the FLICAM (FuLe International Ceramic Art Museums) China 2011.
