EIMEAR CONYARD
JEWELLER
The notion that jewellery is not merely adornment has been the driving force of Eimear Conyard’s work for the last 15 years. Her most recent body of work explores jewellery not only as body adornment but also as object. Contrasting precious and non-precious materials are used to build a resting place for her jewellery. Large hollow forms are created to house the jewellery and also to confuse the viewer and suggest a second place of being exclusive of the human physique that traditional jewellery is designed for.
Conyard combines working in education with her practice. She is currently Manager of the Crafts Council of Ireland’s Jewellery and Goldsmithing Skills and Design Course. Prior to this she was a lecturer at the School of Jewellery Birmingham City University in the UK and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada. Within these environments she has had the opportunity to widen her own knowledge of traditional techniques, new technology and large-scale metal fabrication. She has exhibited her work extensively in Canada, USA, England, Ireland and Europe.
