EILY O'CONNELL
JEWELLER
Eily O’Connell is a jeweller based in the Workhouse Studios in Co. Waterford who composes beautiful creations with an eerie undertone. O’Connell seeks to reference man’s disruption of nature in her work through the creation of her Hybrids. She searches out natural forms and through processes of casting and assembling, re-combines them to suggest new organic forms that are both familiar and darkly unsettling.
O’Connell has won numerous awards for her work. She was nominated for a Newcomer Award by the Association of Contemporary Jewellery at Origin Craft Fair, London, 2009 and received First Prize for Precious Jewellery, Royal Dublin Society National Crafts Competition, Dublin, Ireland 2009.
She was selected for the WCC European Prize for Applied Art, Belgium in 2009 and recent exhibitions include Hothouse, Bluecoat Display Centre, Liverpool, UK 2009/10; Altered Space Gallery, California, USA, 2010; Sieraad Jewellery Fair, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Design Nature International Biennial, Liege, Belgium and Material Poetry, New York, USA 2010.
