Artist statement
Just when you thought designers couldn't possibly do anything more with wood, along comes avant-garde wood sculptor Damase Morin with his unusual, innovative and slightly surreal abstract sculptures. Modern art fanatics will love his Armadillo-esque light made from yen and beech, with spray painted legs and painted blue carved bog oak bowl - a mere glimpse at the shape of things to come from this talented, go-with-the-flow designer. 'I'm always trying to come up with something completely different, manipulating timbers, experimenting with finishes and pushing my designs to the limit while at the same time still trying to maintain some of the woods own natural aspects. Recently I have begun to incorporate steel in my work. It gives me the freedom to build more elaborate and complex structures. My work is constantly evolving'.
