Recipients of Facilities Support Fund Announced:

The Crafts Council of Ireland is delighted to announce the recipients of Facilities Support Fund. The Facilities Support Programme was established to assist the development of high quality, independent cluster based facilities run by individuals, organisations or groups. The programme provides once off funding and dedicated mentoring over the period of 1 year to successful applicants who submit a comprehensive and detailed application that will impact the future growth of the crafts industry. The following organisations made successful applications for funding:

  • Malthouse Design Centre - €8,000 plus mentoring to the value of €1,000
  • Moxie Studios - €3,000 plus mentoring to the value of €1,000
  • Workhouse Studios - €6,000 plus mentoring to the value of €1,000
  • Printblock - €3,000 plus mentoring to the value of €1,000

Enterprise Development at CCoI comprises of a number of training and mentoring initiatives in both design and business, which aim to sustain and grow the craft industry in Ireland.

Building Craft Enterprise Programme Update

The Crafts Council of Ireland (CCoI) is building on the success of the Building Craft Enterprise Programme which has just completed its 3rd successful run.

Many past participants have gained international awards, secured export orders, opened retail outlets and created employment. This year the CCoI is further developing this dynamic contemporary programme in partnership with a third level provider and hopes to offer an accredited programme in due course.

Mentoring 2013

CCoI’s mentoring scheme provides access to expertise knowledge and advice which will help improve the design, production and commercial prospects of individual craft and design enterprises.

Craft, Design and Business Mentors

CCoI work closely with County and City Enterprise Boards, (CEBs), in the delivery of business mentoring to ensure that Craft and Design enterprises can avail of the full range of supports available in their local area. Craft mentors with specific expertise are available to give technical advice for a range of disciplines and CCoI has recently added a number of design mentors to assist with product design, production, innovation and new technologies.

The main objective of the CCoI scheme is to provide expertise, which will help improve the design, production and commercial prospects of individual craft enterprises. CCoI uses the following indicators to assess craft mentoring assignments: 

 

  • Improved design
  • New product development
  • New distribution channels
  • Increased turnover, job creation
  • Sustained growth
  • Exporting and New Markets

Registered Craft Enterprises can avail of Mentoring as follows:

1-2-1 Mentoring

Client enterprises can apply to CCoI for 1-2-1 mentoring for a specific element of their business. Each craft enterprise must complete an application form outlining their objectives, their expectations and how they envisage mentoring will benefit their business.

Application forms for 1-2-1 mentoring will be available to download from 28th February, 2013.

Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    Clustered Mentoring

    CCoI will run targeted mentoring sessions for clusters of craft enterprise that require mentoring for a specific event or purpose over an extended period. CCoI will issue a targeted callout to work with client enterprises that apply to participate in certain CCoI programmes such as Creative Island. Further information will be available from March 2013.

    All client enterprises who apply for mentoring are encouraged to consult the Craft Enterprise website for information and advice.

    Continuing Professional Development, (CPD) Workshops

    CPD workshops are a key element of the CCoI offering to sustain and develop Craft Businesses. The workshops are open to all professional craft enterprises on the CCoI register. CPD workshops fall into two categories:

    1.CPD workshops organised by CCoI


    Workshops which have been identified by the CCoI as relevant to the ongoing development of craft enterprise. These workshops are organised by CCoI often in partnership with County and City Enterprise Boards and advertised on specified dates and times in various locations in Ireland.

    Applications for these workshop will open from 28th February 2013
    .

    2. CPD Workshop Proposals

    CCoI invite proposals for CPD workshops from groups of registered craftspeople or enterprises (comprising a minimum of 8 individuals/enterprises). Workshops are subsidised and organised by CCoI. Applications can be made by a nominated representative of the group. Applications must be forwarded by email and should contain information under the following headings.


    Name and contact details of nominated representative: (This person will act as the the main contact point between CCoI and the group)

    Name, contact email and phone numbers of group members

    Main craft discipline(s) of group

    Details of CPD required: Please list in as much detail as possible the nature of CPD required and how you feel it will assist in the development of your craft enterprise/product range

    Please list most suitable region for the CPD to take place (this is particularly important if individuals who wish to participate live in different locations in Ireland)

    If you have identified an expert that you feel could deliver this training please list details including contact details and any supporting information or recommendations

    Please indicate suitable dates for the training to take place. (Please note that CCoI will require a minimum of 1 month to review applications and to set up training if your application is successful).

    Please confirm that you have a minimum of 8 people committed to attending this training

    Fees


    Fees are calculated based on the number of participants, the nature and location of the CPD workshop. CCoI endeavour to keep costs as reasonable as possible.  A maximum fee of €40 per participant will be charged. The actual fee will be notified to applicants if the application is approved. Applicants may notify CCoI a minimum of 1 week in advance of a CPD workshop if they are concerned about participant numbers. In the event that on the date of the workshop there are less than 8 participants those attending will be required to cover the cost of participants who fail to attend.

    CPD Workshops may be recorded using photography, video and or audio for future use on CCoI websites. In making an application all workshop participants agree to footage being used and published on web platforms at a future date.


    CCoI may deliver CPD workshops in partnership with other agencies including County and City Enterprise Boards, Leader Companies and Cultural organisations


    CCoI reserve the right to publicise all CPD workshops.

    Continuing Professional Development Fund 2013

    The Crafts Council of Ireland (CCoI) Fund for Continued Professional Development is an important opportunity for established Craft Enterprises.


    This fund covers attendance at workshops, training courses, master classes, conferences, and research missions to research events and trade fairs. Networks and groups can also apply to bring expertise to Ireland to deliver a master class or in turn a group application can be made to attend a master class outside of Ireland.

    CRAFTS COUNCIL OF IRELAND (CCoI) FUND FOR CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) 2011

     
    This fund will be an annual fund made available to all CCoI Clients to apply for. The fund will ensure that makers have access to suitable professional development for their craft.
     
    Training may take the form of attendance at workshops, training events, master classes, conferences, symposiums, or participation in a longer development programmes (does not fund MA programme) or to research international trade events (not for participation in trade events/fairs)
     
    The maximum amount per year is €500 to any one CCoI registered client.
     
    There may also be opportunities for further funding for group applications where a group wants to bring expertise to Ireland for a masterclass etc or
    if a group wants to attend a masterclass, symposium etc abroad. This will be reviewed on a case to case basis.
